1 Job Posting (03/01/08) Portland Wiz Kids

Job Title: Instructor for engineering and technology enrichment courses

Description: Portland Wiz Kids offers programs for kids in engineering, inventing, and creative problem solving at various locations throughout the Portland Metro area. Each program is developed as a way to introduce kids to the process of design and creativity in technology, with a balance of scientific theory and creative freedom to apply what is learned in a new way - truly the essence of invention.

We are currently seeking high-energy, inspirational instructors to teach engineering, technology, and invention courses in the upcoming school year. The ideal candidates have experience working with kids and have some engineering or science background. Engineering and Education students, as well as teachers, are encouraged to apply.

Kids these days have many opportunities to interract with science and technology, but often it is a one-way interaction, with someone or something communicating to them, whether a teacher, a website, or a game. Portland Wiz Kids programs are developed on the basis of action learning, which uses experiential activities to teach the engineering and creative processes, whether it is designing a robot, programming a new computer game, creating a solar car, or inventing a new toy or game. Kids learn how to create something new, while having fun doing it.

This position will begin with formal training in February 2008 and classes beginning in the Spring (March/April 08) to include 10-15 hours per week (additional hours on holidays and spring break). During the summer, the position will expand to include 30-40 hours per week. We are looking for individuals who would like to grow with a young company and who have a passion for inspiring young people to reach for the stars.

Instructors will be trained to cover 1-2 of the following courses:

Computer Animation
Programmable Invention
Toy Invention Workshop
Introduction to Engineering
Lego Robotics
Business / Entrepreneurship for kids and teens

Any experience in the above topics should be highlighted in cover letter and/or resume.

Please send resume and cover letter to:
